Residential property sales declined by 3% across the province in April, marking the first decrease since the beginning of 2017.

Only the Montréal Census Metropolitan Area (CMA) experienced an increase in activity last month, with the number of transactions rising by 1% compared with April 2016. Looking at the data in greater detail, increases were recorded in the Vaudreuil-Soulanges (+29%) and Montréal South Shore (+3%) areas, while activity remained stable on the Island of Montréal and declined in Laval (-3%) and on Montréal’s North Shore (-2%).

The province’s five other CMAs all saw their real estate activity slow down in April: Gatineau (-3%), Sherbrooke (-5%), Trois-Rivières (-10%), Québec City (-15%) and Saguenay (-31%).

In terms of the median price across the province, it increased by 6% for single-family homes, 2% for condominiums and 1% for plexes.
